Running Shipix, end to end

Shipix is a same-city courier and cash-on-delivery platform for Cairo, connecting shippers — individuals and businesses — with a rider network. This manual covers every role: booking as a customer, shipping in bulk as a business, delivering as a rider, and running operations as an admin.

What Shipix is

Shipix moves parcels within Greater Cairo on a scheduled 48–72 hour delivery window — not instant, on-demand pickup. A shipper books a pickup address and one or more drop-off addresses; Shipix reviews the booking, assigns a rider, and the rider collects, transports, and delivers the parcel, optionally collecting cash on delivery (COD) along the way.

Four people interact with the system, and this manual has a section for each:

  • Customers — book a single pickup or several parcels at once, pay online, and track the shipment.
  • Businesses — the same booking tools, plus bulk CSV upload, COD reconciliation, subscription plans, and an API.
  • Riders — apply, get assigned deliveries, update status, and navigate their route.
  • Admins — approve bookings, assign riders, manage pricing, and reconcile payouts.

Accounts & sign-in

An account isn't required for a one-off booking — but signing up unlocks order history, saved details, and (for businesses) the bulk and finance tools.

Signing up

On the Sign up page, choose Personal or Business with the toggle at the top. Business accounts additionally provide a business name, which appears on shipment labels and rider-facing pickup details.

Logging in, and password recovery

Customers, businesses, and riders each have their own log-in page (rider log-in is separate from customer/business log-in). Forgot your password? sends a reset link by email; while signed in, Change password is always available from account settings.

Note: resetting a password immediately signs that account out everywhere else — any device that was already logged in has to sign in again.

Booking a pickup Customer

The Book a pickup page is the core of Shipix — used by guests, signed-in customers, and businesses alike for one-off or small shipments.

1. Pickup address

Every booking starts with one pickup address, entered one of three ways using the mode toggle above the field:

  • Type address — free text (e.g. "Zamalek, Cairo"), automatically geocoded.
  • Paste Google Maps link — paste a share link from Google Maps (including short links); Shipix resolves it to an exact point.
  • Pick on map — tap a point directly on the embedded map.

Whichever mode you use, once a point is resolved the address field is automatically filled in with a readable address (reverse-geocoded) — it stays editable if you want to refine the wording.

2. Add your parcels

Each parcel gets its own card with a drop-off address (same three input modes as pickup), a description of what's being shipped, and an optional cash-on-delivery amount. Use + Add another parcel to add more drop-offs from the same pickup address in a single checkout — useful when several orders are going out from one shop or home in one trip.

One checkout, one payment: every parcel in the same checkout shares a single pickup address, a single card charge, and one combined tracking confirmation — but each parcel gets its own waybill code and can be tracked independently afterward.

3. Review the price and confirm

The price box at the top updates live as addresses resolve, showing delivery fees and the pickup fee broken out separately (see How pricing works below). Guests fill in a name and email for the booking; signed-in customers skip that step. Confirming runs payment through Stripe — in test mode (the default unless a live key is configured) payment is simulated automatically.

After confirming, each parcel gets a waybill code (e.g. SPX-324006689-CAI) and a tracking link — the booking then waits for Shipix's operations team to review it and assign a rider.

How pricing works

Pricing is distance-based, in flat bands from Downtown Cairo rather than a per-kilometer meter — the same shape most Cairo last-mile couriers use.

Distance from DowntownDelivery fee
Up to 30 kmEGP 75
30–40 kmEGP 80
40–45 kmEGP 90
45–50 kmEGP 100
50–60 km and beyondEGP 120

The one-time pickup fee

Sending a rider to collect fewer than 5 parcels in one trip costs about the same as a delivery run, so it's priced the same way — using the same distance bands above, just measured from the pickup address instead of the drop-off. It's charged once per pickup trip, not once per parcel:

  • A single booking (always exactly 1 parcel) always includes it.
  • Several parcels from the same pickup address — whether from one multi-parcel checkout or a business's bulk upload — split it evenly between them.
  • Once a pickup address has 5 or more parcels going out together, the pickup fee is waived entirely.
Custom area rates: an admin can set a fixed override rate for a specific city or area — where one exists, it replaces the distance-band delivery fee for shipments to that area.
Weight & volume: pricing today is distance-only. A weight/size surcharge (using chargeable weight — the greater of actual weight and a dimensional/volumetric weight) has been designed but is not yet switched on; every parcel is currently priced the same regardless of how heavy or bulky it is.

Tracking a shipment

Anyone with a waybill code — no account needed — can look it up on the Track a shipment page.

The tracking page shows a status timeline, and once a rider is assigned and en route, a live map of the rider's position that refreshes automatically. If the booking is still in its scheduling stage, the recipient can set a preferred delivery date, time, and confirm or adjust the drop-off address right from this page.

Pending approval Ready for pickup Assigned to rider Picked up In transit Delivered

A delivery that couldn't be completed moves to Return requested → Returning → Returned instead of Delivered, with a reason recorded by the rider.

WhatsApp updates

Once a booking is approved, the recipient gets a WhatsApp message asking them to confirm and share their delivery location. Replying with a shared location pin updates the drop-off point directly; any text reply is logged against the booking so Shipix's team can follow up. This channel is optional for the recipient — replying isn't required for delivery to proceed.

Bulk upload Business

For businesses shipping many orders at once, the Bulk upload tool in the account dashboard takes a CSV of orders and creates all the bookings in one pass.

1. Download the template

The template's column headers work in either language — each header is written as "english / عربي" (e.g. customer_name / اسم العميل), so a business can keep both, or delete whichever half it doesn't need and upload with plain English-only or Arabic-only headers.

2. Fill in orders

Required columns: customer name, phone, city, pickup address, and drop-off address. Optional columns cover a second phone number, area, package description, COD amount, a reference number, and email. There's no distance or price column — like the booking page, distance and price are calculated automatically from the drop-off address.

3. Preview, then confirm

Uploading first shows a preview: every row's calculated distance, delivery fee, and pickup-fee share, plus any row-level errors with a plain-language explanation. Fix flagged rows in the table directly, then confirm to actually create the bookings.

Pickup fee grouping: rows are grouped by pickup address within that single upload — three orders from the same shop address split one pickup fee between them; orders from different addresses are each their own group.

Parcel labels

Each waybill can be printed as a label — waybill code, pickup and drop-off addresses, and a scannable QR code linking to the tracking page. Labels print three to an A4 sheet for batch printing after a bulk upload.

Finance & COD reconciliation Business

The Finance page is a business account's ledger for cash collected on its behalf and fees owed to Shipix.

  • COD collected / pending / remitted — how much cash riders have collected on delivery, how much is still awaiting payout, and how much has already been paid out.
  • Fees invoiced / paid — delivery and pickup fees owed to Shipix, net against COD owed to the business.
  • Remittance batches — each payout Shipix makes is grouped into a batch, exportable as CSV for accounting.
  • Recent shipments — a running ledger of individual bookings with their status and payment state, also exportable.

Subscription plans Business

Businesses can subscribe to a plan that includes a set number of shipments per period at no per-shipment fee — bookings and bulk-upload rows are automatically covered until the plan's allowance runs out for that period, after which normal per-shipment pricing resumes. Manage or view the active subscription from the account dashboard's Subscription tab.

API integration Business

For shops that want to create shipments directly from their own store or ERP, the API keys tab issues a key for server-to-server integration.

Generate a key from the account dashboard — it's shown once, so store it securely. Authenticate requests with it and POST to create a shipment:

POST /api/v1/shipments
Authorization: Bearer <your API key>
Content-Type: application/json

{
  "pickup": "Nour & Loom Studio, Zamalek",
  "dropoff": "Nasr City, Cairo",
  "distance_km": 18.5,
  "recipient_name": "Karim Salah",
  "recipient_phone": "01198765432",
  "cod_amount": 250,
  "reference": "ORD-1002"
}
What's different from the booking page: the API takes distance_km directly from the caller rather than geocoding an address, and doesn't apply the one-time pickup fee or support multi-parcel checkouts. A subscription's shipment allowance still applies if one is active.

A created shipment is billed to the business account, not charged per call — no card payment step, same as any account-billed shipping API.

Applying to ride Rider

Prospective riders apply from the Ride with Shipix page: full name, email, phone, the district they'll ride in, a password, and photo uploads of an ID document and driving license. Applications are reviewed by Shipix's operations team before the rider can log in and start receiving deliveries.

Rider dashboard Rider

After logging in at the rider log-in page, a rider's dashboard lists every delivery currently assigned to them — recipient name and tap-to-call phone number, pickup and drop-off addresses, and whether COD is due (and how much).

Updating a delivery's status

Assigned to you Mark picked up Mark in transit Mark delivered

From "Picked up" or "In transit," a rider can also mark Couldn't deliver with a reason (customer refused, unreachable, wrong address) instead of delivering — this starts the return flow back to Shipix's hub.

Proof of delivery

Marking a delivery as Delivered opens a proof-of-delivery step: a photo of the parcel at the door and a signature captured on-screen, both attached to that booking's record.

A rider can also claim an unclaimed delivery, or update its status, directly from that shipment's public tracking link — not only from the dashboard.

Planning a route Rider

The Plan my route page takes a rider's current location and orders today's assigned deliveries into a short route rather than the order they were assigned. Each stop links out to Google Maps turn-by-turn navigation ("Start driving") for that leg of the trip.

Operations dashboard Admin

The admin dashboard is where Shipix staff run day-to-day operations, organized into tabs:

Bookings

Review incoming bookings (including bulk-upload and API submissions awaiting approval), assign a rider, and adjust status, price, or pickup fee by hand when needed.

Finance / Payouts

See COD owed to each business, create and track remittance batches, and mark them paid out.

Rates

Set a fixed price override for a specific city or area, replacing the standard distance-band price for shipments there.

Subscriptions

View and manage business subscription plans and their active subscribers.

Contacts

Messages submitted through the public site's contact form.

Riders

Approve or deactivate rider applications, review a rider's delivery activity, reset a rider's password, and view a rider's current location on a map.

Fleet map

A live map of every active rider's position at once.

Users

Customer and business accounts, with the ability to reset a user's password.

Homepage content Admin

The Homepage content editor lets an admin update the public marketing site's copy — headlines, stats, service descriptions, testimonials, FAQ — directly, without a code deploy.

Language & access

Every page has an English / العربية toggle in the top-right corner, switching the full interface — including right-to-left layout in Arabic. There's no account-level language setting; each visitor's browser remembers their last choice.

Support

General questions and issues can be sent through the contact form on the public site (routed to Shipix's operations team, and visible to admins under the Contacts tab), or by emailing Shipix operations directly.
